Electrolama 2.0

Electrolama has been rather quiet for a while. The projects never entirely stopped, but the website, documentation and public face of things did not keep pace with what was happening behind the scenes.

It is time to change that.

Starting again, without starting over

Electrolama 2.0 is not a grand relaunch or a clean break with the past. It is a return to the things that made Electrolama interesting in the first place: useful hardware, open designs, practical documentation and tools built because they ought to exist.

The first step is tidying up the foundations. The Lab is being rebuilt as the technical home for Electrolama projects, bringing hardware information, software and practical documentation together in one place. Older projects will remain available, while new work will have somewhere coherent to live from the beginning.

A wider workshop

Some of the new work will fit neatly into the familiar hardware and software categories. Some of it will not.

The Open Instrument Project is one example: an independent, open platform for interoperable modular test and measurement equipment. It is an Electrolama project, but substantial enough to have its own identity, community and home. A longer post introducing the project and the thinking behind it will follow.

This blog is where we will talk about work like that: why projects exist, how designs evolve, what went wrong along the way and what we are exploring next.

What about the shop?

A lot has changed in the logistics of shipping things around the world since the last package left Electrolama HQ. We are not quite ready to restart that side of things just yet, but we are working on it.

If you have not already joined the mailing list, head to electrolama.com, scroll to the bottom of the page and add your email address. That will be the best way to hear when there is news about the shop.

There is plenty still under construction. That, at least, is a longstanding Electrolama tradition.
